MTN, Nigeria’s largest telecom provider, has begun rolling out a 50% tariff increase following approval from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in January.
For now, the price hike mainly affects data plans, while call and SMS rates remain unchanged. Users will notice the adjustment in MTN’s updated data pricing as the changes take effect gradually.
However, a data pricing reviewed by AFRICATECH BUZZ showed that the 50% increase affected the 15 gigabytes weekly plan that used to cost ₦2,000 increased by 200% to ₦6,000, The 400GB three-month plan, which was previously ₦50,000, was adjusted to 480GB for three months at a new price of ₦120,000, reflecting a 100% increase.
For now the hike did not affect some smaller data plans like the 2.5 GB daily plan which is still ₦500.
