MTN, Nigeria’s largest telecom provider, has begun rolling out a 50% tariff increase following approval from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in January. For now, the price hike mainly affects data plans , while call and SMS rates remain unchanged. Users will notice the adjustment in MTN’s updated data pricing as the changes take effect gradually. However, a data pricing reviewed by AFRICATECH BUZZ showed that the 50% increase affected the 15 gigabytes weekly plan that used to cost ₦2,000 increased by 200% to ₦6,000, The 400GB three-month plan, which was previously ₦50,000, was adjusted to 480GB for three months at a new price of ₦120,000, reflecting a 100% increase. For now the hike did not affect some smaller data plans like the 2.5 GB daily plan which is still ₦500.
