There’s something magical about December in Nigeria. The streets come alive with lights, music fills the air, and the energy is giving.

It’s the time of year we call Detty December—a season of celebration, homecomings, and unforgettable memories. And in 2024, the magic reached new heights as Lagos,Ondo, ogun, Edo, Delta and even destinations like Ekiti became the heartbeats of this festive wonderland.

Lagos, of course, held its crown as the entertainment capital of Africa. The city was buzzing with life, from the glittering high-rises of Eko Atlantic to the exclusive enclaves of Banana Island. Visitors poured in, filling luxurious short-let apartments that quickly became the talk of the town. Imagine this: ₦21 billion in bookings, with nightly rates soaring as high as ₦120,000. It wasn’t just accommodation; it was an experience.

But Lagos didn’t stop there. The nightlife was unmatched, as lounges and clubs lit up with energy that could only be described as electric. Picture packed dance floors, bottles popping, and the thrill of A-list artists performing to sold-out/free  crowds. By the time the season ended, Lagos nightlife had brought in a jaw-dropping ₦4.32 billion.

And then, there were the tourists—550,000 of them, to be exact. They came from all corners of the world: the USA, Canada, the UK, South Africa, Ghana. Some came for the parties; others came for the culture and maybe OS . Lagos welcomed most of them, but the magic didn’t stop there.

Far away from the city’s chaos, Ekiti quietly entered the scene. Here, the Ikogosi Warm Springs became a hidden treasure. Imagine standing where warm and cold springs flow side by side, surrounded by nature’s calm. For those seeking serenity, Ekiti offered the perfect escape—a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of Lagos.

This Detty December wasn’t just about fun; it was a reminder of how much Nigeria has to offer. From the luxury of Lagos to the peaceful beauty of Ekiti, there was something for everyone. As the festivities ended, one thing became clear: December in Nigeria isn’t just a month. It’s an experience, a story that unfolds every year, leaving memories that last a lifetime.

And as 2025 approaches, the question isn’t whether Detty December will be bigger. It’s how we’ll outdo ourselves as usual.
